They say you have to be madly talented to be able to churn hits and still be able to keep listeners glued to your show day in day out. Juggling between this two demanding jobs not only requires popularity but also relevancy both in content as well as material. I dug into this select few who have tried their hand on this with success and failure.

Max Matonye A.K.A Didge: Discovered by Ted Josiah and churning hits like Kitangoma at the Blue Zebra studios which ruled air waves across East Africa. He got an opportunity to try his hand on T.V hosting the VIPI Show on K.T.N which did well before finally joining Easy FM (Nation FM). He however left in a huff with the notion of pursuing ‘personal projects’ which we are still waiting for.

Nonini A.K.A Hubert Nakitare: The self-proclaimed “Godfather” of Genge is a force to reckon with even though he is still fresh in the radio industry, Nonini is doing it big in his morning show “Breko” on One FM while still ruling the raves and reviews musically with hit after hit.

Sanaipei Tande A.K.A Sana: Not only is she beautiful, but is also blessed with a voice to match. Well known for her role in the Kwaheri by Jua Cali, Sana, said kwaheri to the Sema group and teamed up with Eve de Souza in the show ‘Hits Not Homework’ on Capital FM before decamping to host Kiss FM’s “Mid – Morning” show which was really successful during her time, though she has since left it, with rumors that money was the cause. She had also tried a role on T.V in the Sakata Show as a judge in Citizen’s Sakata Dance Show.

Davidson Ngibuini A.K.A DNG: After controversially leaving the gospel industry, he has made a name for himself as an MC and radio host. The self-proclaimed “Kenya’s number one hypeman”has done it all – both in radio and T.V. In his time at Kiss, his show grew big among his audience and when he felt “big” enough, he sought for greener pastures at One FM, again doing very well and being DNG, he also quit to pursue personal projects which are bearing fruits already. He is rumored to have pocketed KES 10M from the Jubilee Campaign team, he is also at the same time hosting a show in Zuku – “BAQE” which is not doing badly plus he has a deal for hosting this season’s edition of “Sakata Season 4” on Citizen T.V, and from this, the sky is the limit for DNG.

Harrison Munio A.K.A Bamzigi: After leaving the Necessary Noise group to pursue a solo career, he did a major song “The Bounce” which did very well in radio stations. Bamzigi has had issues in his career as he had to quit his radio job at Kiss FM due to drugs problem which has been well documented but after dealing with it, he later joined One FM hosting the “Fired up” show. He was later to quite in a huff under the common notion of pursuing personal projects.

Debbie Asila: She has started from the bottom to the top, from hosting Karaoke at the Pizza Garden, to Kiss FM, but the Shaffie drama might have contributed to her departure to Citizen T.V doing a cameo on Papa Shirandula. She found her groove back and joined Uptown FM doing a Morning show that paved the way for her to join Venus fm. Due to her versatility, she has moved on to the Marketing position role at the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).

Sheila Mwanyiga: Her music career has not been that upbeat in the recent years but she has continued holding it well at Easy FM and has even now joined NTV’s AM Live show which she does brilliantly.

All in all, diversity is all about taking opportunities that present themselves and converting them to work to your advantage as they have done
