UHURU's People Daily Newspaper Frustrating It's Correspondents And Going BROKE

The mediamax group majorly owned by the president has been going under a financial turmoil over the past few months.The constraints could see over 100 employees from it's broadcast wing K24 and Kameme parking.

This was a step intended to shrink the burden by reducing the labour expenses incurred through payments to the larger group. But the troubles are far from over. The print wing,the peoples daily is currently undergoing the same ordeal.

NE establishes that most journalists haven't been paid for the past three months,the worst hit group in this area are the correspondents who are vital to any successful newspaper and are always spread across the country collecting local news for the newspaper.

We learn the correspondents haven't been paid for the past two months a scene that is largely attributed to the managing editor Maina Muiruri for his I don't care attitude and mistreatment towards the correspondents whom he looks down upon yet they form the backbone of the success.

Talking on anonymity grounds a correspondent reveals to NE the depth of frustrations they've been subjected to,sometimes last year they went on a strike demanding pay rise and the matter was squared. It was resolved that they be paid sh.3 per word up from the initial sh.1 but as we learn the situation has remained the same.

As other correspondents in the competing brands likedaily nation and standard continues to pay their correspondents up to sh.6 per word,the Peoples Daily continues to pay them sh.1 per word and even that little is still unpaid.

Several appeals have been made to the top management and the efforts thwarted by Maina the managing editor. The People daily has been trying to penetrate the market largely dominated by NMG and Standard Group but has failed in it's efforts. Its still struggling to stand on it's feet and while at it the employees walks around with hollow pockets.
