Missing a chicken from any homestead in the Luhya land is as impossible as it sounds. And like in any other society, the thieves surrounds the community and will pounce anytime to cash in off others.
Most people sleep under the same roof with the chicken in the western region the irony however is,the cows.and other animals have their own shades away from the owners' room comforts which the less valuable[monetary] enjoys.
By sharing the same roof,it goes to show how dear and valuable the chickens are to the Luhyas. This kind of relationship poses a challenge to the thieves who are always out to make a catch no matter of the means.
According to various confessions, the thieves have discovered a new method,"they use ropes for lowering the coffins then throw them on the roof of targeted house, this will get everyone inside into a deep sleep. The thieves then breaks in and sweeps out all the chickens without being heard" explains a local to Nairobi Exposed.
"I didn't believe until it happened to me,when it happens you won't realise, you go into unusual deep sleep, such that no one can hear the chickens' squeaks, you wake up to find empty shade, the ropes used in lowering coffins into the graves are said to have powers that puts one into a deep sleep" narrates the local.
In some instances, the thieves are so confident that they'll raid in,slaughter a chicken and make a meal full with omusuma(ugali) and even eat before leaving with rest of the loot.
