The 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards took place at the Durban ICC, in South Africa on Saturday night with Sarkodie picking up the gong for Best Hiphop Artist of the Year. Mafikizolo and Davido  won two awards each including artist of the year for Davido and Song of the year for Mafikizolo.

Kenya's own Lupita bagged the prestigious personality of the year award. Sauti Sol suffered a loss to Mafikizolo who took the group of the year award However the category was competitive and greatest losers in this category seems to be acclaimed heavyweights P-Square who went homes empty handed.

Best Video: Clarence Peters (Nigeria)

Best Pop: Goldfish (South Africa)

Best International: Pharrell

Personality of the Year: Lupita Nyong’o (Kenya)

MTV Base Leadership Award: Ashish J. Thakkar (Tanzania)

Transform Today Award by Absolut: Clarence Peters (Nigeria)
