Celebrated lawyer Kethi Kilonzo has faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, for allowing China Road and Bridge Corporation to ship in 5, 000 Chinese to help in the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway from Mombasa to Nairobi and then to Busia.
Kethy argued that the 5, 000 jobs belong to Kenyans by law and by right and not foreigners. Besides China is a world superpower which cannot compete with an underdeveloped country like Kenya for 5, 000 job opportunities which can be handled by Kenyans themselves.
She noted that the Chinese will take up jobs and earn income at the expense of 5, 000 Kenyan households and by extension 500, 000 Kenyans going by the number of dependants.
Kethi, who is the daughter of former Makueni Senator, the late Mutula Kilonzo, challenged Uhuru/ Ruto to disclose professional qualifications, expertise and experience of the 5, 000 Chinese workers as required by law to see if there are no equally qualified Kenyans before issuing them with work permits, or else Kenyans won’t allow them to set foot in Kenya - they will be ‘stoned’.
“We will move to court to challenge the issuance of work permits to the 5, 000 Chinese workers if it will not be in the best interest of Kenya because the law allows us to do so,” said Kethy
