Ever wondered why many programmes on television these days are more or less the same? The Kenyan TV industry has this tendency of adopting one theme of programme and duplicate it all across the board,by this I mean if its a soap opera mini then you will see it in all the stations. We are going to deal with different scenarios and reveal to you what actually goes on behind scenes.

• Soap operas
- This genre of programme has gained a non refutable following amongst the TV consumers. Watch all the leading channels you will realise non misses soap opera in their list of programs. But this trend didn't start out of the blues, someone started and someone copied the other. This how it works a station will introduce a new idea and the moment it starts working out and the other hesitant stations will hop on it and this how it spreads across the board.

• Stand Up comedy Shows

- All the stations once again have or have had this genre in their list. In the recent past stand up comedy scene in Kenya has undergone a tremendous mile and seen the rise of many artists. The trend initially was introduced by Churchill in time all the stations caught the flu and within no time we had KTN,NTV,K24,and Citizen TV have their own version of the comedy shows. I must admit it has opened up doors to many talents though.

• Magazine Live news shows

- This normally happens during the weekends where the stations stage an extensive and comprehensive news bulletin with live show interviews incorporated and news from across board beamed. Unlike the 30 mins-1hr normal news bulletins takes, this particular show will last even two hours. It was started on citizen TV,the famous Sunday live and within no time all the stations adopted the style.

•Magazine Music Shows

- You must have realised that all these stations have a music show mostly in the evening, guests, live audience,on camera pieces, unlike in the past where the music videos would simply play without any much interactions in the programs. Citizen came up with mambo mseto where it was pure African music,KTN later followed suit with iz vipi afrika mashariki,K24 has same show, again KTN has str8up,NTV teens republik which hosts live audience both.

• Sexiness in news presentation

- This has nothing to do with programming but its an evident trend amongst the female news anchors. The producers are drifting and making the hosts look more attractive by exposing the curves. We have seen the hosts comeout from the news reading desks which only showed their heads up to doing stand up presentation showing off the intended parts, remember when Linda Ogutu of NTV then appeared reading news in a tight dress and with all the massive curves she had,for the days she did it,the NTV lived up to their motto of turning on Kenya. The same has been happening in all the stations even the "analogue" KBC have matched up.
