Its not the first time OLX comes under attach for being the hub of digital conmen. Many transactions goes on in here on daily and so is the frauds. As NE unearths, there is a new trick in town that these quacks are deploying on the unsuspecting victims. Case at hand is about a guy who posted his bid on OLX looking for a job,the preying hawks(conmen) are always on the look out fo such victims armed with the knowledge that most job seekers are desperate and able to give in to any attempt that could point at them getting s job.

After they've identified a target, you are approached by a good looking offer example of a reply you'll get, courtesy of s victim goes like:
Hi, am Mr.MULEI from DENYTE CARGO HANDLERS-A newly established cargo handling company located at the JKIA, I got your number from OLX. We are urgently seeking to recruit new employees to fill out the vacant positions. Kindly visit our website for full details of the vacant positions. Inform a friend. Best regards."

With such an offer and possibility of getting a job, naturally the reaction would be to reply and do as requested. It's emerging they have fake websites that they are using to host fake pages to dupe those directed into believing. What follows is puzzling, after visiting the said site, you'll be given a certain number to call mostly they call it the PR's no. on calling the PR officer who by the way is the conman instructs you to come for the interview next day without delay, you are given requirements and here once again he crops in the bate, you are expected to bring a certificate of good conduct and a health certificate/report,all these you are told with the knowledge that it's close to impossible to obtain these documents all within the short period given. You'll be asked if it will be possible for you to get all those documents and with the glaring impossibilities you'll give in and say you won't be able, that's when they have the big smile, you'll be instructed to send in a certain amount of money so that they can process your certificates and you collect them next day in the morning as you appear for the interview. Next day as you get to the said office early not knowing the surprise awaits you, there isn't any such office you were told about, there isn't such s company and no job vacancy either the only thing that's there is that you have been conned. These people are smart and there brains ever evolving and at work coming up with new tricks as old ones gets known. As a job seeker there are key points you need to take into notice as you job hunt courtesy Nairobi Exposed:

• Don't be too quick in giving out your contacts in a public forum as much as you hunt for the job, giving out your no. makes you an easy target for the conmen as they have the basic route to reach and manipulate you.

• Never trust a deal that's too good to be true, most cases the conmen who pose as employers comes out candid and so persuasive,in real  world,it's the job seeker who gets humble.and not the employer, hint is,if the person to give you the job is coming out as donor,he keeps on.calling you instead of vice versa, you need to ne afraid.

• Always insist on getting a receipt. Not all cases are fraud. Most jobs attracting masses for interviews will require applicants to pay a registration fee which is always refundable to those unsuccessful and in other circumstances it's non refundable. A serious.institution will always direct their clients that's you the jobseeker to a specific.health agency for the health report, don't be quick to pay.for one, that's their loophole for coning you.

• Not until you see and step into the office. Most of these cons will build a castle on a desert and paint it as the best thing to ever be,they talk of big companies, they will say their offices located at this building to make you believe but in reality,no such company exists. Before you divulge into any kind of transactions of any manner, first do a background check up and.make sure it is what it's being said it it. Don't wait till you get slapped with reality when it's already too late.
Now you have it be safe.
