He is not resting this year, only few hours after hitting the headlines threatening to shut down all night clubs in Nairobi and declaring Tusker Project Fame an illegality given its sponsorship with EABL,Mututho has made another declaration.
January 14 th former Kilome MP and businessman Harun Mwau earned his clean bill of health thanks to NACADA boss John Mututho who in a letter declared him so.
“The authority does not have any
evidence of you or any other Member of Parliament being involved in drug trafficking or drug abuse. The circumstances (sic), authority is aware that a total of approximately 1 tonne of
cocaine seized in Kenya in 2004 was seized from two locations, Malindi and a godown in Embakasi. The authority is not aware of any cocaine seized in 2004
from Pepe Inland Port,” says Mr
Mututho in a letter addressed to Mwau.
Harun had earlier written a letter to NACADA to show any evidence that links him to the drugs cartel or declare his name clean arguing that the allegations have dented his image and he needed an uplift.
US president Barack Obama listed Harun Mwau as amongst the most wanted drugs barons in the world something that would see his assets in the US frozen. In 2011 the then security minister George Saitoti in a report to the parliament said that there were no direct links/evidence that would prove that he was involved in drugs dealing.
Now Mututho says Obama was mad and misguided for declaring Harun a narcotics dealer without sufficient evidence to back up his claims. Serious questions are being raised Mututho makes his declaration. NACADA as a state agency and him as the chair don't have the authority to clear anyone of past nor present allegations, did he step out of his mandate and why? That will remain a puzzle.
