Like many of the times, quails is the new kid in the block and everyone is going crazy to make a kill in fact telling her you are a quail farmer would work magic for you.
Without any localised scientific research someone came up with euphoric benefits of quails meat and everyone bought it,thanks to gullibility amongst Kenyans. According to the word on the streets quails have 5 times nutritional value than a normal chicken egg,it cures the following diseases and not limited to ulcers, asthma, anaemia, diabetes, cancer, kidney and liver stones TB,stroke and erectile dysfunction, boosting immune system, enhancing memory, smoothing the skin, some are even trading it as a cure to AIDS.
With such glamourous benefits and the poverty levels in the country people were more likely to buy the idea, now every where from the river road "office" doctors Hawking in the buses,to supermarkets and estate kiosks, quail eggs and it's meat is the hot cake commodity on the shelves, people on social media have changed their names into "Quails" the madness is epic but are there possibilities that this is just another pyramid scheme?
Forget those long emails from the quails eggs suppliers that you've received giving numerous benefits and supposed scientific research. Hudson Nyambaka, a professor of
analytical/nutritional chemistry at
Kenyatta University, in an interview with a local daily says the claims on the medical benefits of quails are not backed by local studies. “These claims are part of a marketing campaign,” stated Mugambi.
Reacting to the claims, Ms Mugambi said: “The same nutrients the researcher
mentions are found in higher amounts in chicken eggs because the bigger size.”
The last time thousands travelled to Loliondo in Tanzania for the magic concoction by the famous babu who claimed a cup of the drink would heal anyone of any illness, studies later proved that it was a sham, many people died on there way or even while there drying in the long endless queue.
The pyramid schemes which promised people to become instant millionaires with some little investment is still fresh in minds of many, families were left broke, many committed suicide after it all turned out to be a scam and millions sucked off.
The quial wave could as well be one of the sham members, maybe no but as you cash in maybe you need to think twice about it. When the deal is too good said one wise man. Still staying at it,the Quails Farmers Association have successfully registered and issued with a licence with the agriculture department making the business of the wild bird a legality. Yes quail is classified as wild bird and one need to obtain a license from the KWS to operate as a farmer.
